Responsibilities
- Assist other scientists on high complexity initiatives and lead workstreams within larger projects, or manage low complexity initiatives with guidance.
- Maintain compliance with GMPs, food safety, and people safety protocols in the lab and pilot plant environments.
- Create trial plans and test protocols, document experiments, analyze data, and develop SOPs to ensure consistency and quality.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including scientists and engineers, to develop samples and prototypes using various technologies and techniques.
- Learn to operate, maintain, and document procedures for lab and pilot plant equipment, ensuring safety and efficiency.
- Present findings, results, and next steps through reports and team meetings.
- Perform administrative and training tasks as needed, including GMP and pilot plant training.
- Ability to develop and execute designed experiments on pilot scale equipment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with allergens including dairy, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, wheat, eggs, and other food ingredient chemicals, while wearing PPE.
- Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
- Flexibility and adaptability to handle multiple priorities and changing work environments.
- General knowledge of food GMPs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering related field is desirable.
- Experience in food industry R&D, particularly with hard candy and gummies technology, is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 50% to manufacturing sites outside Hershey, PA, including Canada and Mexico.
- Ability to work overtime when required.
