Overview
System One is seeking a highly capable and motivated Test Operations Technician local to Everett, WA to support multiple research and development projects involving experimental systems, prototype equipment, and advanced test infrastructure.
In this role, the Operations Technician will support engineering laboratory testing activities and experimental campaigns by assisting with the design, fabrication, assembly, installation, operation, and maintenance of experimental systems and supporting infrastructure. This includes high-temperature flow loops, vessels, piping systems, instrumentation, and control equipment.
The role requires strong technical troubleshooting ability, mechanical and electrical aptitude, and the ability to safely operate and maintain complex experimental systems. Responsibilities
- Operate experimental systems, engineering test equipment, and supporting laboratory infrastructure in support of research and development activities
- Monitor and control operating parameters including temperature, pressure, flow, and system levels to maintain safe and effective test conditions
- Start, stop, and adjust mechanical and electrical equipment as required during experimental operations
- Assist with the fabrication, assembly, installation, and modification of experimental systems, piping, vessels, instrumentation, and prototype equipment
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on laboratory equipment including pumps, motors, heaters, sensors, and instrumentation
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and control system issues and support repair activities
- Collect operational data, record test results, and maintain accurate laboratory and operational documentation
- Support engineers and scientists in the development, testing, and refinement of experimental systems and procedures
- Perform equipment inspections, system pressure checks, leak testing, and energy isolation procedures including lockout/tagout (LOTO)
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation to support equipment assembly and troubleshooting
- Maintain laboratory spaces, tools, and equipment in an organized and safe working condition
- Follow company safety procedures, laboratory protocols, and quality assurance requirements
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree or post-secondary technical training in instrumentation, electronics, mechanical technology, or a related technical field preferred
- Minimum two (2) years of experience in industrial operations, laboratory testing, mechanical maintenance, or technical field support
- Relevant military or technical school training may substitute for industrial experience
- Knowledge of operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment including pumps, motors, valves, piping systems, and related industrial components
- Experience working with electrical systems up to 480 VAC and familiarity with diagnostic tools such as multimeters and basic electrical test equipment
- Understanding of basic process instrumentation including temperature, pressure, and flow measurement devices
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, piping diagrams, and technical documentation
- Strong troubleshooting skills for mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
- Mechanical assembly skills and proficiency using standard hand tools and shop equipment
- Ability to accurately record operational or laboratory data and maintain clear technical documentation
- Experience working in radioactive and/or contaminated environments is a plus
- Basic computer proficiency including word processing, spreadsheets, and software used for equipment monitoring or data acquisition
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary technical teams
