Cultural Resources Technical Writer
We are seeking an experienced Cultural Resources Technical Writer to support a large federal infrastructure program. This role is suited to an archaeologist who can independently develop, edit, and quality-check cultural resources deliverables while working with field teams, GIS specialists, and project managers.
Responsibilities

Prepare and review cultural resources work plans, technical and letter reports, Class III survey documentation, monitoring reports, site evaluations, and mitigation documentation.

Interpret archaeological field data and synthesize findings for Section 106 and NEPA documentation.

Assess cultural resources and develop recommendations regarding National Register of Historic Places eligibility.

Review field records and GIS data from large survey crews for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Coordinate with project teams and support communication with SHPOs, THPOs, and tribal representatives.

Produce clear, well-organized deliverables that meet client requirements, agency standards, and project deadlines.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in anthropology, archaeology, or a closely related field; master’s degree preferred.

At least five years of cultural resource management experience in the western United States. Great Plains experience is preferred.

Demonstrated experience independently writing and editing cultural resources technical reports.

Working knowledge of Section 106, NEPA, National Register eligibility evaluations, and archaeological survey and mitigation practices.

Experience supporting Department of Defense cultural resources programs and coordinating with SHPOs or THPOs.

Experience reviewing and quality-checking field data from large archaeological survey crews.

Familiarity with tribal consultation and working with Tribal Cultural Specialists.

Proficiency with ESRI applications, particularly Survey123, Field Maps, and ArcGIS Pro.

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain or maintain required Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) access.
Meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards and holding an RPA credential are highly desirable. Candidates should be prepared to discuss specific examples of technical reports they have authored, federal compliance documentation, GIS-based data management, and western U.S. archaeological projects.
