Mechanical Design Engineer
Industrial Equipment | 3D Modeling & Design

Overview
We are seeking a skilled Design Engineer to lead the development of accurate 3D models and technical drawing packages for high-temperature industrial equipment. This role is central to translating engineering requirements into manufacturable designs with Autodesk Inventor as the primary tool. The ideal candidate brings strong hands-on modeling instincts, a deep understanding of fabrication processes, and the ability to drive a design from concept to shop floor.

Responsibilities
  • Build and maintain detailed 3D models and full drawing packages in Autodesk Inventor, including GAs, foundation layouts, P&IDs, erection details, fabrication specs, weld maps, and shipping/lifting requirements.
  • Own the design lifecycle: develop, review, and revise models to ensure accuracy, constructability, and compliance with project specifications.
  • Perform engineering calculations and analyses to validate design feasibility before fabrication.
  • Collaborate with project and fabrication teams during kickoff meetings, design reviews, and technical issue resolution.
  • Conduct shop and field inspections to verify that fabricated equipment aligns with design intent; review NDE results and as-built dimensions.
  • Support documentation of design changes and compliance throughout project execution.
  • Travel domestically and internationally as required to support project milestones.
Requirements
  • AS Degree or equivalent amount of education + experience
  • 5+ years of experience in 3D modeling and technical drafting for industrial equipment.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to ~20%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AutoCAD as a complement to Inventor-based workflows.
  • Exposure to high-temperature or pressure vessel equipment design.
  • Programming knowledge or eagerness to learn scripting to enhance design workflows.
  • Prior experience working alongside fabrication shop teams.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality management processes.
