Principal Healthcare Solution Architect

Location: Hybrid – DMV preferred (1 day per week onsite; PI planning may require 2 days onsite)
Duration: 12-month contract (extension possible)

About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Healthcare Solution Architect to support enterprise member services modernization initiatives for a leading healthcare payer organization.

This is a strategic, high-visibility architecture role that sits between Enterprise Architecture and Application Development. The ideal candidate is a strong conceptual thinker who can translate complex business requirements into scalable, secure, and cloud-ready architectural solutions — while confidently presenting those solutions to executive leadership.

This is not a hands-on development role. Instead, this position requires architectural leadership, cross-domain collaboration, and the ability to bridge enterprise standards with practical implementation design.

What You Will Do

• Translate business requirements (member services, claims, enrollment, benefits) into high-level conceptual architecture designs
• Design modern 3-tier architecture solutions (UI, APIs, data) aligned to enterprise standards
• Ensure solutions are secure, compliant (PHI/VIP data), scalable, and cloud-ready
• Present architectural solutions to senior leadership (VP/GM level) in clear, executive-friendly language
• Align project-level solution designs with enterprise architecture principles and roadmaps
• Collaborate with development teams to ensure architecture intent is properly implemented
• Support modernization initiatives, including on-prem to AWS migration readiness
• Participate in Architecture Review Board discussions
• Contribute to architecture standards, reusable patterns, and domain strategies
• Evaluate emerging technologies and vendor solutions within the healthcare domain

Required Experience

• 10+ years of architecture experience
• Healthcare payer experience strongly preferred
• Experience designing member-facing portals or service platforms
• Strong experience with Java / Spring Boot architecture patterns
• Experience designing cloud-ready solutions (AWS preferred)
• Experience translating business requirements into architectural designs
• Strong understanding of security and compliance in regulated environments
• Ability to present architecture concepts at executive level

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting healthcare domains such as claims, enrollment, benefits
• Exposure to AI/ML integration concepts in enterprise applications
• Experience with cloud migration strategy
• Experience participating in Architecture Review Boards
• Certified System Architect or relevant architecture certification
