Job Summary
Under general direction, this role performs complex, professional accounting work involving financial reporting and analysis. The position supports leadership, multiple internal departments, and external authorities, boards, and commissions by providing accurate financial information used for operational and performance-based decision making. Additional related duties may be assigned as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare financial reports and operating statements in accordance with GAAP and present information to internal departments and leadership.
- Perform and review accounting operations, including posting and balancing expenditures, revenues, and journal entries in the general ledger.
- Prepare and reconcile detailed accounting records and supporting schedules, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, investments, payments, collections, debt, fixed assets, and accruals.
- Support month-end, year-end, and annual audit processes, utilizing internal controls to ensure accurate, complete, and transparent financial reporting.
- Maintain capital asset schedules and roll-forwards by funding source and asset class, ensuring proper allocation of expenditures across bond, sales tax, and other funds.
- Monitor and report on debt service activity, ensure scheduled debt payments are made timely, and prepare drawdowns related to capital expenditures.
- Manage post-award grant accounting, including financial reporting, expenditure tracking, revenue analysis, and fund drawdowns in compliance with grant requirements.
- Prepare cost analyses and reports related to service delivery and program operations.
- Collaborate with budget analysts and department leadership on financial management and budget development.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field that meets CPA education requirements.
- Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Professional Growth Opportunity
- Employees may be eligible for promotion to Senior Accountant upon obtaining an active CPA license, completing six months in the role, and demonstrating satisfactory performance.
